Taurumi

The ultimate Polynesian massage

Taurumi is an ancestral Polynesian massage art still practiced by many Ma'ohi families. It is a true healing art, deeply rooted in Polynesian tradition. More than a physical treatment, it embodies a philosophy of well-being, where body and mind are reconnected through precise, caring gestures.

An ancestral ritual
Taurumi is one of the many practices of traditional therapeutic medicine. This ritual helps to maintain the harmony of one's being on a spiritual, psychological and physical level. Literally, the word Taurumi means touch, and this is how this treatment is defined. Contact with the skin reaches the soul and soothes it. The masseur, or “tahua” as he or she may be called, is totally devoted to the “patient”, listening to him or her.

A know-how
Once his hands have been coated with scented oil (Mono'i, Tamanu, etc.) at the right temperature, the “tahua” applies them to several parts of his “patient's” body (head, arms, legs and scalp) to relax, release tension and undo knots linked to stressful, tiring daily life. In this way, the therapist transmits a relaxing energy to the “patient”, enabling them to regain balance in their relationship with their environment and surroundings. The various Spa hotels in Tahiti and her Islands include this ritual in their menu of relaxing and invigorating treatments.
