Raivavae

The wild one

Also known as Vavitu and considered the wildest of the French Polynesian islands, Raivavae is also said to be one of the most beautiful islands in the South Pacific.

Its sublime emerald-colored lagoon and myriad Motu (islets) are home to a multitude of seabirds, and its floury white sand beaches are the jewel of the South Seas.
Raivavae also offers mountainous landscapes where every green on Mother Nature's palette shares the luxuriance.

The quiet life of the locals

The inhabitants of Raivavae lead a peaceful, old-fashioned life in 5 villages with pastel-colored houses: Rairua, Mahanatoa, Anatonu, Vaiuru and Matotea, where the superficial is replaced by the essential.

Things to do in Raivavae

The attractions on this enchanting island are varied: swimming in its clear turquoise waters, walking on the reef, picnicking on the Motu and touring the island by boat. Visits to archaeological sites such as Marae Pua Pua Tiare still retain all the mystery of ancient times, with its vertically placed stones and “the” stone that resonates when struck.

You can also enjoy guided or self-guided hikes, including one to Mount Hiro, 438 meters above sea level, or to the “route traversière” through flower-filled, tree-lined paths. There's so much to discover on this sweet island of Raivavae.
