Tickets and formalities

PASSPORT AND VISA

  • Passport: A valid passport is required to enter French Polynesia, even for citizens of the European Union. Make sure it is valid for the entire duration of your stay.
  • Visa: Citizens of the EU, USA, Canada, Switzerland, Australia and many other countries do not need a visa for a tourist stay of less than 90 days. If you are planning a longer stay, or if you are of another nationality, check with the French consulate whether a visa is required.

TRAVEL INSURANCE
Travel insurance covering medical expenses, repatriation and accidents is strongly recommended. Tahiti and its islands have medical services, but in some remote islands, access to care may be limited.

DRIVER'S LICENSE
If you plan to rent a car in Tahiti or the other islands, an international driving license is recommended. However, a national license is often sufficient for short-term stays.

LONG STAY
If you are staying for more than 90 days, or with friends or family, the authorities may ask you to provide proof of accommodation.
