Project Description

A South Pacific pure wonder

A South Pacific pure wonder

Tikehau, of the Palliser Islands, is the cousin of Rangiroa since only 15 kilometers separate them. Characterized by its oval form, Tikehau, a real Tuamotu gem, consists in several Motu (white and pink sand islets) around the border of a splendid lagoon, of which only 2 of them are inhabited. A splendid postcard view is offered to everyone.

The inhabitants of this atoll live mainly off fishing, fish parks, and the copra harvest. The Motu Hararu, Mamaa, Tuherahera, Ohini and Teavatia are the main villages of Tikehau. This atoll has daily air service thanks to its aerodrome inaugurated in 1977.

The channel of Tuheiava is the only passage by which it is possible to enter the lagoon of Tikehau, and it constitutes an incredible diving site. A splendid exploration of the sea-beds and sumptuous lagoon of Tikehau is recommended. It was described by Captain Cousteau as being the most full of fish lagoon in the world.

The natural swimming pool of Tikehau has various astonishing underwater species like: eagle rays, tunas, hammerhead or gray sharks, turtles, dolphins to be discovered.
Tikehau is par excellence the Robinson Crusoe island of the South Pacific. What a pleasure to rest on the white sand beaches, surrounded by coconut trees; or to go for a stroll with the echo of the waves breaking on the reef and the wind caressing your skin tanned by the sun rays.

The bird island of Tikehau is a Motu which shelters many colonies of birds such as the red-foot Booby, the swift terns, and the blue noddy. Each visit is incredible and memorable.

A walk through the village of Tuherahera, the capital of Tikehau, diving, trips to a wild Motu, or the lagoonarium, sunset cruises, crossing the lagoon to the pink sand beaches, or visiting a pearl farm… there is only pleasure to have in Tikehau.

Charming family hotels, a beautiful hotel, and a marvellous eco-lodge offer a warm welcome for a unique journey.
