Project Description
Surfing in Polynesia
Surfing – one of the Polynesian sports activities for years, was observed for the first time in the 18th century by the European explorers and in particular by the navigator James Cook.
Its popularity is infallible in Tahiti and Her Islands.
The sports where most surfers enjoy are Teahupo’o – an universally known spot and valued by many international surfers, Taharu’u, or Papeno’o on the island of Tahiti.
However, other islands and atolls offer surfers very interesting waves in idyllic settings.
Several times per year, great competitions like the Billabong Pro are organised in Tahiti and welcome kings of surf enthusiasts for big thrills.
