The South Pacific under the spotlight in the next Disney cartoon

This is no longer big news as online networks have been discussing this for the last few months.
The next feature cartoon from the famous Disney studios is about a Polynesian princess named Moana (meaning “sea” or “ocean” in Tahitian and other Pacific languages).
That’s right! We couldn’t dream of a better promotion for our Pacific islands!

The film tells the story of Moana, a young Polynesian princess and born navigator from the South Pacific islands, who sets sail in search of a fabled and mysterious island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary semi-god Maui, to traverse the open sea on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds, and also a strong culture of ancient traditions.
An epic adventure awaits the princess on her quest for a new world.

Back in 2011, a team from Disney studios had visited Polynesia and other South Pacific islands (Fiji, Samoa) incognito to soak up the Polynesian culture, sceneries and islands, and to meet the local population.
The team included several professional illustrators and famous directors Ron Clements and Jon Muskers who created the world-famous Little Mermaid, Aladdin, & The Princess and the Frog. The initial trip to the South Pacific obviously met the expectations of the two giants in the Disney industry as the animated film is scheduled for release in Christmas 2016.
A second trip, in 2014, has enabled the team to further research the Pacific culture and perfect their vision of the island scenery.

To note: the production is currently casting to find the rare pearl to portray the animated film’s heroine (Polynesian) who can also sing.

The film will not necessarily mention the geographical location of the islands in the Pacific Ocean, but Polynesia in its entirety is more than delighted to see this part of the world portrayed in an animated film which will probably be a huge success.
