Matari’i I Raro
On Tahiti and other islands of French Polynesia like Huahine and Raiatea, the traditional festival marking the end of the period of abundance (Matari’i Raro) is celebrated. Formerly, this time of the year was symbolized by the fishing and agriculture restrictions in order to preserve the environment. Since the arrival of the Missionaries, these practices had somewhat been put aside, however they were never forgotten and find their prestige once again. Traditional dance ceremonies and shows are set up.
