Project Description

A blend of colours and savours

A blend of colours and savours

The Market is a real attraction for visitors as well as for local people.

Inaugurated in 1987, its current structure is more adapted to the market-gardeners’ needs than the preceding one.

In this economic and social crossroad of the city the day starts at 5am and people come from all over the island to sell their products.

On the ground floor there are fishmongers, butchers, farmers, along with craftsmen and florists.

Upstairs is full of artists displaying local jewellery, sculptures, works of art, clothes… revealing the creative side of Polynesian people. You will also find there two famous tattooists and the Market’s restaurant.

This is where you can buy your last-minute gifts, often at a better price and with more choice than in any other place in Papeete.

The Market of Papeete is above all the place where you can experience the daily life of Polynesians and see how they interact with each other.
